The City of Reading offers the county’s most diverse collection of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. From centuries-old pubs to brand new restaurants, Reading, PA has it all.
Jimmy Kramer’s Peanut Bar has been offering free peanuts to patrons for more than 100 years, but the Ugly Oyster claims to be the oldest bar in town, dating back to the 1700s. Nearby, Judy’s on Cherry occupies a former farmer’s market building while Saucony Creek’s Franklin Station is in a former Reading Railroad station just south of the Santander Arena.
The Reading Outlets may be gone, but the former outlet district is now home to some of the best Latin American cuisine in the city. Taqueria el Carreton and Taqueria Jimenez are located directly opposite each other on Oley Street with Ave Maria Taqueria right next door. Nearby, Old San Juan is a destination for Peurto Rican cuisine.
Lancaster Avenue, which runs through the southern end of the city, also has great places to eat and drink. Liberty Ale House is one of the best bars in town, as are the two nearby breweries: Oakbrook Brewery (from the owners of Taqueria Comalli) and Pagoda City. For a quick bite, it’s hard to beat Screpesi’s, which has been serving hoagies and sandwiches since 1949.
