Benchwarmer’s Coffee & Doughnuts
West Reading

Seven years after its opening, Benchwarmer’s Coffee closed its doors on July 9. The closing announcement came earlier in the week, noting that the weekend of July 8-9 would be the last for the coffee and donut shop. No additional details were given, and there has been no update on what will become of the location at the corner of Penn and Fourth Avenues in West Reading.

Falco’s Tavern
Robesonia

Falco’s Tavern in Robesonia closed its doors on June 23. The corner bar was sold to new owners and will reopen under a new name – the Farrier’s Tavern.

Origen Latin Fusion
Sinking Spring

Origen Latin Fusion, which opened in the former TomCat Cafe in Sinking Spring in early 2023, closed its doors just over a year later. It was announced in May that the restaurant was closing and that new owners would be bringing a new concept to the space. There have been no updates on who the new owners are or when the new restaurant will open.

Chef David’s Food & Friends
Wyomissing

After a two-year run, Chef David’s Food & Friends has closed. The takeout spot in Wyomissing took over the former Relish the Deli-sh in 2021. In a July social media post, it was announced that the restaurant would be closing because the namesake Chef David was dealing with health issues that were taking him away from the business.

Squawk Cafe
Wyomissing

The Squawk Cafe announced in May that the restaurant would be temporarily closing. No additional details were given at the time but that they would have “more information soon.” As of mid-July, there have been no updates.

Olyvia’s Italian Eatery
Fleetwood

After 15 years in business, Olyvia’s Italian Eatery closed its doors in May 2023. The announcement was made on the restaurant’s Facebook page on May 5. No further information was given. This now leaves the corner of Pricetown Road and Route 662 without an Italian restaurant after having two for the last decade-plus. Mazzola’s moved from the opposite corner to a strip mall just west on Pricetown Road, opening at the new location earlier this year.

Effie’s Charcoal Chef
Exeter Township

After 16 years, Effie’s Charcoal Chef closed its doors at the end of March. The restaurant, located along Perkiomen Avenue in Exeter Township, was sold and the owner is retiring. A second location of Norte Sur Mexican Restaurant is opening soon in the location.

Tino’s Pizzeria & Bar
Wyomissing

In late February, it was announced that Tino’s Pizzeria & Bar in Wyomissing (formerly Santino’s) would be closing for renovations with a goal of re-opening in mid-May. It was later announced that it would be more than a renovation as the space will open as State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen, which is still anticipted to open in May/June 2023.

The Greenhouse Cafe
Wyomissing

After three years, the Greenhouse Café in Wyomissing as closed. February 12 was the last day at the location. According to the restaurant owners, the landlord was asking for the café to be open longer hours than they could staff and be profitable so they are currently looking for a new location. In the meantime, Greenhouse is partnering with Hill Road Coffee Roasters in Mohnton to offer pre-order pickup meals beginning in March. A second location for City Girl Juice will take over the café space sometime in spring.

Ezeikel 47
West Reading

After less than a year operating along Sixth Avenue in West Reading, Ezekiel 47 closed its doors in early 2023. The cafe specialized in teas from around the world. The owners said in a Facebook post that they were no longer operating a storefront location and that they are unsure of how they will serve customers in the future.
